Allotment Donations

Allotment Donations letter from BHAF

Can you help?

The allotment service currently costs more to run than is raised by allotment rents. It is hard for us to justify the Council meeting this deficit when other essential services are having their budgets cut.

When we survey plot holders, some say they think allotment rents are very cheap, while others say they find it hard to pay the current rent each year. Plot holders’ incomes vary greatly; we have high earning professionals and working people on minimum wages. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to ‘means test’ tenants, so everyone currently pays the same rate.
Together with the Council we have already implemented savings across the service but we are not there yet. To aim towards a cost neutral service, and to keep allotment rents as cheap as possible for all sections of the community, especially those that allotments were originally intended for, The Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation is suggesting that those plot holders who are able to, consider making a voluntary donation over and above their rent. In doing this you will be supporting those who would find it hard to manage a large rent rise. All donations are guaranteed to be ring fenced to the allotment service budget to reduce the deficit and maintain the service. Please give as much as you are able.

Please pay your rent as usual and make donations separately using the methods on the letter below and make a note of your payment reference if you make a donation. Thank you.
