Harvest Brighton and Hove
Harvest share scheme

About Harvest Brighton & Hove
Harvest aims to increase the amount of food grown in the city: on windowsills, in back gardens, in allotments, and in community spaces like parks and around housing estates. We want to ensure that fresh, local produce is available and accessible equally to all residents in Brighton & Hove.
We are working with partners such as the Allotment Federation, the council and community food projects around the city. We are scrumping apples from trees to prevent waste and make delicious juices and chutneys. And we are running a programme to redistribute surplus allotment produce to community food projects like lunch clubs and cookery sessions. We are also working to open up new land for food growing and supporting community food projects. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved: through volunteering at a project, coming on a training course about growing or cooking, or attending one of our community food events.

Got some produce spare?
Do you have any extra produce this season? If you’ve got a glut of beans or courgettes (or any fruit or veg from your garden or allotment) that you can’t use but can’t bear to see it go to waste, then please contact the Harvest project. The Harvest Share scheme can help link you to a community project who can put it to good use, ensuring that more people are able to taste and enjoy fresh, local produce. We have a long list of lunch clubs, day centres, community cafes and cookery groups who would love to take ad hoc donations of produce. If you’d like to share your harvest, or have any queries about this, please ring the Harvest team on 01273 431700 or email harvest@bhfood.org.uk and we’ll put you in touch with a project.
