REGULAR EVENTS

RAGS (Roedale Allotments and Gardens Society)  meet the SECOND Monday of every month At 7.30pm in Laburnam Grove Common Room, Burstead Close, Hollingdean, BN1 7HXView on a map

Tenantry Down Allotment Association Pub Meeting - meet on the first Tuesday of every month at the Pub with No Name, 58 Southover St.  All Allotment holders and co-workers invited. Starts 8pm. Locate pub in maps.

Southern Counties Orchid Group - (For those interested in Tropical or Hardy Orchids).  Meet on the second Wednesday of each month at The Community Centre in Lancing, West Sussex at 7.30pm.  At most meetings there is a guest speaker, with slides, often there are plants for sale, and a raffle.  Tea, coffee and stronger drinks are available from the bar.  We also have a table show each month of plants bought in by members.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Garden House Pop-up Shop - Just come along to The Garden House any Friday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm – we’ll be selling seasonal fruits and vegetables, a great selection of plants, seeds, preserves, eggs (from our own chickens!), mosaic gifts and other garden paraphernalia. We also have a large range of garden books and magazines in our cosy Garden Room – you are welcome to browse and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea and some delicious homemade cake – and of course ask all your gardening questions! 5 Warleigh Road, Brighton (access via side gate and passage)

A Sussex Howl 7 January 2012: join the Brighton Mummers for a wassail (or Howl as its known in Sussex) to bless the apple trees for a bountiful season next year. The event will start at the community orchard behing Sure Start in Hollingdean, with a walk over to the orchard at Stanmer Park. Find out more

SEEDY SUNDAY - 5th Feb 2012 - put it in your diary now!

GROW AND TELL COURSES - WEALD ALLOTMENTS - 2 hour workshops combining horticulture and literature: learn to grow food and to write about growing things, £3.00 per person – all money goes to Weald Allotment Gardeners (WAG) for upkeep of Weald Site.  Meet at 11:00 at Weald Avenue Allotment Gate, BN3 7JN (workshop space available in bad weather).  Each session includes time to explore a little of the allotment site and finishes at the WAG shop so people can buy seeds and supplies if they wish. While the site is largely wheelchair accessible, those with limited mobility are advised to arrange a site visit first, to ensure they are comfortable with the location. Prior booking is essential as each session is limited to eight people. NEW!!!  BHOGG Workshops - Monthly practical sessions with prize winning organic gardener, Ruth Urbanowicz, followed by a general allotment work afternoon undertaking seasonal tasks. All welcome, no experience necessary. THESE SESSIONS ARE FREE TO BHOGG MEMBERS, OTHERS £5 OR 2 HOURS LABOUR ON THE ALLOTMENTS ON THE DAY. Please wear suitable clothing and bring your own lunch if you want to. Tea and coffee provided. Planning your plot - 18 February, 10am-2pm: : This is a short indoor course to help you get to grips will all the things you need to consider to create a productive and easy to manage veg plot. 

The Science of bees - 23 February, 6:30-8:30pm: a talk where you'll learn more about the lives of bees and what's going on in Sussex to save them. 

Successful Composting - 10 March, 10am-2pm: earn a variety of composting methods, the benefits of composting, what makes good compost and what doesn’t at this practical workshop. 

BRIGHTON  PERMACULTURE COURSES AND EVENTS SEE BELOW  – for full details and bookings please visit Brighton Permaculture courses and events page   As the scrumping season winds down, we're pleased to report that, thanks to the help of our volunteers, over 2500 kilos of fruit have been picked. This includes apples, pears, cherry plums, damsons and even a few kilos of grapes. Some of the fruit was sold on Apple Day, but most was juiced at Stanmer and sold directly from the juicer. Thanks so much to everyone who's helped make this project such a success!

Introduction to Permaculture  Are you trying to figure out what permaculture actually is and how it could be useful for you? This course is designed to help you do just that. You will engage with the definitions and the history, and from there explore the ethics, processes, tools and techniques and practical examples of permaculture, and at the end of the course you will do a permaculture design.
