Weald allotments has several competitions open only to allotment holders (Weald Site tenants):
- 4 Section Representatives Awards – to be judged by Section Reps and Site Rep
- Best Kept Allotment and Best Newcomer’s Plot – to be judged by committee members and impartial outside judges.
The award winners will be announced at the AGM in October.
But we also have competitions open to all members of the Hove Horticultural & Allotment Association (HHAA). Membership only costs a pound at present and entitles you to substantial discounts on seeds, compost, tools and other gardening equipment in our Weald Avenue shop which is open 09:00 – 12:30 on Saturday and Sunday.
- Longest Runner Bean
- Biggest Marrow
- Best Summer Vegetable Arrangement (a paper plate to display veg can be collected from shop by entrants 7 days before the deadline)
To be judged over the weekend 28/29 August in the Pavilion Building. You can grow your veg at home and bring it in to be judged – you don’t have to be an allotment-holder at Weald.
Two other competitions:
- Sunflower Competition for Children
- Kelsae Onion Competition
Will be judged 7/8 August. Both are open to all HHAA members purchasing a packet of special competition seeds from the shop, but you need to tell us the age of the child involved in the sunflower competition please! Onions will be displayed in the Pavilion Building. Sunflowers will be visited on site or in members’ gardens. Please note: vegetables entered into all the competitions WILL NOT BE RETURNED but will be passed to the Food Partnership for distribution.
